About this project

For years, I’ve been fascinated by the question of how we decide to read what we do. It’s a vital question, because it’s another way of asking, where do we direct our attention, and why?

This Substack is a place to harbor those reflections, where I read and write about books selected from one of five categories. I’ve designed each category with the goal of becoming more intentional about where I focus my attention. When all five categories are covered, I return to the first, and the cycle begins again.

Here, I publish short essays responding to what I’ve read and reflecting on this process.
